Cannot add a student/staff to my course

There are several reasons why you cannot add an NUS student or staff to a course:

  1. The user has yet to be provisioned in Canvas.
    In particular, new staff need several days after their official start of employment as Canvas accounts are provisioned from CHRS.

  2. The user is not considered staff in CHRS.
    This is applicable especially (but not limited) to Medicine staff who may have NUS staff accounts but are not considered as NUS staff.

  3. You are attempting to add the user(s) using their friendly-mail alias(es).
    Canvas only recognises NUS users' official email address, not their friendly-mail alias. The recommended way to add users is by their NUS-ID  - using the Login ID or SIS ID option - when adding people.

  4. You are attempting to add a student to an academic course.
    Students are synced to academic courses via EduRec. You can only add Guest Students to an academic course.

  5. Your course is closed.
    Once the course is closed, you are not able to add users to the course. Please contact Canvas Instructor Help for assistance.
